At the heart of our material technology are PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) - biopolymers derived from plant-rich wastewater feeds. Through bacterial fermentation, waste is transformed into a fully bio-based, compostable material.
This approach doesn’t just reduce waste - it slashes carbon impact. Our PHA production emits 6x less CO₂e per kg than conventional design plastics like TPU. It’s also a water-wise alternative, using 90 litres less
water per kg than cellulose-based materials.
Smart, circular, and scalable - Munnch materials are designed for the next generation of sustainable design.
Our materials are broken down by micro-organisms found in soil and water, through enzyme-led biodegradation. Under ambient conditions, they fully decompose within 6–8 weeks whether in soil, water, or even landfill - leaving no microplastics behind.
While domestic and industrial composting remain the ideal route for end-of-life disposal, this built-in breakdown acts as a failsafe against improper wastage and littering.
This makes Munnch materials perfect for brand activations and semi-permanent installations, where proper disposal is often unpredictable. Unlike recycled plastics or PLA, our materials don't rely on perfect conditions to return safely to nature.
